Mujaasi Investments Ltd intends to establish a modern Fruit value chain by mobilizing and recruiting more farmers to join its farmer producer organizations, training them into modern post harvest technologies and installing a value adding mechanism which shall include a ware house with modern processing equipment with cold storage facilities and related capital equipment which shall include a pineapple jam processing plant.

To achieve all the above MIL intends to acquire funding payable in 5 years and the company will have to adapt the following operational strategies which will ensure good business growth and sustainability. The strategies shall include;
• To add value to these fruits using the most appropriate technology given the various market demands and dynamics.
• To ensure quality, quantity production, at affordable cost of production, and timely Delivery to the various market destinations.
• Fulfilling and getting customer orders,
• Enhancing collaboration with out-growers and producer organizations (POs) will have to open up more land for various fruits like Tomatoes, water melons Passion fruits, mangoes, pineapples, etc.
• Setting up satellite collecting centers with modern stores across the entire fruit producing area.
• Massive training of farmers in good agronomical practices especially post harvest handling techniques.
• Purchases substantial volumes of fruits from the farmers in a manner that ensures sustainability, improvement of life, food security, and hope
In order to achieve the above objectives ,MIL intends to implement a project in the area where its catchment area for horticulture products are sourced, the project shall be able to Enhance post harvest handling of the products and increase small holder farmer access to better markets by focusing on their capacity to embrace good harvesting technologies processing and marketing.
Project Goal
The main goal of the project is to Enhance horticulture value chain development among small holder farmers in Masaka and Rakai District.
The project objectives include:
• Mobilize and sensitize 200 small scale horticultural farmers to join four farmer producer organizations two for each district.
• Train 200 farmers in post harvest handling techniques by the end of year one.
• Establish two demonstration sites for post harvesting technologies
• Establish a modern collecting centre for each producer organization
• Equip each farmer organization with a credit revolving fund to enable farmers access agricultural inputs and produce quality products.
• Enable farmers sell substantial volumes of fresh fruits and vegetables to Mujaasi Investments Ltd company which shall distribute them to customers.
Expected out puts
• Four producer organizations enhanced and increase membership to 200 farmers
• 200 farmers trained and able to apply different post harvest handling technologies
• A revolving credit fund established for each farmer producer organization
• Establishment of a processing plant for pineapple jam, tomato sauce and passion fruit squash.

Outcomes
• MIL shall increase the number of its supplier farmers from 65 to 200 farmers in the two districts by the end of three years
• 200 farmers shall be able to reduce their post harvest losses by 50 % due to gain in knowledge of post harvest handling
• Farmers shall be able to get agricultural credit and reduced interest rates and purchase agricultural inputs in time.
• The horticultural acreage shall increase which will lead to increased output and better income for farmers.
Organization background
Mujaasi Investments Limited (MIL) was incorporated as a private limited company in 2013 and is at the at the forefront of adding value to the huge fresh fruit harvests and vegetables which sometimes get wasted because of the inelastic demand of their raw form, by mobilizing local small holder farmers into solid producer organizations to consolidate its upstream supply chain. In the last 2 years MIL has managed to establish a solid base of a supply chain of 65 farmers in Rakai and Masaka who supply fresh fruits and vegetables. MIL Management is convinced that adding value to these vast horticulture products would be the best insurance against fluctuating prices, attract better Prices, and ensuring steady supply to the different market niches whose needs can be addressed by these value added fruits.
MIL is owned by three Directors Namely Mujaasi David , Tukasahaba Allan and Akampurira Shibah, The Company Has its Headquarters in Mutukula in Rakai District and with an office and Store in Masaka Town. The company has Articles and Memorandum of Association, which lays out all governance and ownership issues which shall always be referred to whenever decisions ought to be taken. It prescribes the company’s goals, objectives, regulations, and roles of the Directors. The company has a management team of 5 people with 10 full time employees. A well-constituted management team of MIL has the following responsibilities:
• Mobilizing farmers in their respective producer organizations to produce agreed fruits according to agreed practices, instructions and specifications;
• Providing crosscutting training and extension services to enable production of agreed fruits to the required standards.
• Buying, processing, packing, and preserving of farmers’ produce for onward delivery to consuming markets.
• Marketing and providing market linkages for farmers produce, and
• To nurture and maintain good relationships with all stakeholders.
• Embark on aggressive value addition processes in order to add value and improve on the revenues generated in the region.
